Sabylla's early dance training consisted of ballet, tap and acrobatics. Throughout childhood, she pursued and excelled in piano, voice, figure skating, theater, baton and gymnastics. Her theater resume includes lead and featured roles in Godspell, Anything Goes, The Fantastiks, and Hair. Sabylla began her bellydance training in 2001 with local Knoxville instructor Alexia whom she credits a solid foundation in technique and elegant presentation. She later gained considerable stage experience as a member of Debka's Oasis Dancers from 2004 through mid-2006. Sabylla presently avails herself of top-tier instruction and mentorship with Shahira, aka Cynthia Turnage. Through her influence and inspired teaching of the Ibrahim "Bobby" Farrah method, both Sabylla's repertoire and style have evolved and deepened in feel and authenticity. Sabylla also acknowledges the generosity of friends and dance coaches: Gina of Atlanta and Linda of Nashville. Sabylla is founder and moderator of KnoxRaqs a message board found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KnoxRaqs/. KnoxRaqs is a forum for belly dance enthusiasts in the Greater Knoxville/East Tennessee area to share information, post inquiries and network. Orientale, Tribal, Fusion and Trans-Genre'd practicioners and inquisitors are all represented on the site. What follows is a compilation of recent workshops and intensives attended as a commitment to herself and her students. The inclusion of workshops in this list is not intended to imply ongoing training with the respective instructors, but rather to indicate Sabylla's interest in and respect for the specialties each teacher represents. In all cases, in can be FIRMLY stated that Sabylla feels her exposure to and interaction with these fine, talented and dedicated artists has expanded her base of knowledge and understanding and informed/enhanced her own dancing in ways ranging from subtle to significant. |
